Of course, these upgrades take money (Beans are the official currency of Onceuponia), and if you buy into these too early, then your potion making days might be limited. The best way is to start slow and gradually build up your clientele, however tempting it is to get that shiny new storefront. You can also hire different sorts of marketing depending on the daily Curse Forecast (example: Brainwashing costs a lot more than Flying Monkeys, so you would not want to sink a bunch of beans into Brainwashing on a low curse day), offensive Spells (Flying Elephant Drops can resupply you mid-day), Spy Devices (I recommend learning Corporate Mole as soon as you can, because knowing the price of your competitor's potions is the trick to staying ahead!), and lots more. From time to time, various shady characters hit town and are for hire if you wish, but just be careful what you 'wish' for. Sometimes opening Pandora's Box is not a good thing, and I mean that in the literal sense!
The game has nine levels to unlock, each set in a different village in Onceuponia, each with it's own unique look and challenge. Your store is automatically placed on the map in a fixed position each time, as are your opponents' stores. Despite being based on fairytales, this is not really a kid's game, for example, with characters like Goldilocks and the Three Bears (collectively known as The Bearzini's) portrayed more like a mafia family. The humor is for adults, but very fun in a twisted way, as you are occasionally treated to some fairytale intermission; like Jack and Jill, who have retained a lawyer and are suing your employer, the Fairy Godmother, because the hill they fell down was on her land. You'll be given a few dialog choices of what to do, and depending on your answer, things might turn out good or bad. Either way, they are fun to read and will make you smile as you remember those cherished childhood fairytales.
